Winter always brings out a softer, calmer version of me, like the season itself is telling me, “girl, sit down and breathe.” So this year, I’ve been leaning all the way into my cozy routine. Nothing wild, nothing aesthetic for the sake of Instagram… just simple habits that make my space feel peaceful and help me reset for the next day.
1. A Clean Room = A Clear Mind
Every night, before I climb into bed, I give my room a little reset.
Nothing crazy, I’m not deep-cleaning at 10 p.m. But I’ll:
- Put clothes back where they go
- Set my clothes out for the next day
- Straighten my bedding
- Take dishes to the kitchen
- Reset my desk if I used it
It helps me wake up feeling organized instead of overwhelmed. And honestly? It makes me sleep better knowing I’m not waking up to chaos.
2. Becoming a Candle Girl in All spaces
I used to NEVER light candles in my room. It was because my mom always used to be so against it for smart reasons like not burning the house down.
But I love candles in other spaces like my office, living room etc. But now I have a comforting scent in my room nothing too bright, or citrusy but something on the warmer or cleaner side.
Every night I light something warm and cozy not gourmand like sweet and sexy there is a time and a place for that but rather think calming, peaceful, at soft. Anything that feels like a hug, and let my room fill up with that scent while I’m winding down.
It feels grown. It feels peaceful.
And it reminds me that my room deserves to feel good too, not just the rest of my home.
3. Protecting My Quiet Time
My favorite part of this routine is the quiet time I reserve just for me.
No boyfriend.
No family.
No work emails.
Just me.
Sometimes I journal, sometimes I read, sometimes I watch a comfort YouTube vlog, and sometimes I literally just sit in silence. It’s not about productivity, it’s about reconnecting with myself after a long day.
Quiet time is where I pray, process my thoughts, and remind myself that I’m allowed to slow down. It keeps me grounded through the winter months, when everything else feels busy and rushed.
Winter doesn’t have to feel heavy or chaotic. I feel like with the new year approaching it can feel like everything is weighing down on you to be as productive as possible and or feel like everything up to this point is a performance with no end. All that is so stressful! With a few soft habits, you can create the cozy reset routine your mind has been begging for. Light the candle, tidy the room, pour into your own cup… and watch how much calmer your whole life feels.
