Hola folks! Let’s be honest, traveling as a grown woman requires a new level of preparation and as I grow deeper into my Big Girl Time era, I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) what’s worth bringing, what I wish I packed, and what never leaves my side again. These are the 10 travel must-haves I’ll never forget again each one designed to help you feel fresh, organized, and like that girl at 30,000 feet.
1. A Personal Item With Pockets
Your carry-on is cool, but your personal item? Dare I say is more important. Opt for a backpack or weekender bag that has multiple zippers and compartments, or Tote if you get a organizer. You want to be able to easily grab what you need like passport, lip balm, snacks all without digging through a black hole.
2. Mini Essentials You Can Grab Fast
Inside your personal item, have a small pouch of must-haves you’ll reach for often. For me it is:
- Travel-sized lotion
- Hand sanitizer
- Chapstick or lip oil
- Travel deodorant
- Tissues
- Facial mist
- Wipes
These small items save you from feeling crusty mid-flight, especially if you’re on a long haul.
3. Compression Packing Cubes
They’re not just hype. Packing cubes help you organize outfits by category and squeeze in a little extra space. Get the compression kind if you’re trying to maximize your suitcase space thank me later.
4. Toiletry Bag That Hangs
A hanging toiletry bag is actually my saving grace in hotel/airbnb bathrooms. It’s the easiest way to stay organized while still having your products laid out in full view. No more counter clutter.
5. Portable Charger + Charging Cords
Your phone battery will betray you when you need it most. A portable charger (preferably one that charges fast and can juice up multiple devices) is non-negotiable. Don’t forget to pack all your cords in a tech pouch so they’re not tangled.
6. Noise-Canceling Headphones
Baby crying? Loud talker behind you? Say less. Noise-canceling headphones are a game changer I personally use the Apple AirPods Max, but anything that helps block out the world and the airplane engine is great!
7. Neck Pillow That Actually Supports You
Don’t grab the cheap airport ones at the last minute. Invest in a supportive neck pillow (memory foam or structured) that won’t leave your neck hurting. I like the ones that can contort any way you would like.
8. Hydrating Eye Masks
Not just for self-care these are essential for keeping your eyes moisturized during dry cabin air. I love wearing them under my sleep mask mid-flight to help reduce puffiness and keep me looking fresh when I land.
9. Silk Sleep Mask
Pair your hydrating eye masks with a soft silk sleep mask to block out light and stay in your zone. A good one will also protect your lashes if you wear extensions or just want to keep your skin feeling soft.
10. A Go-To Travel Fit
This might not technically go in your bag, but hear me out: always have a designated travel fit. Something comfortable, layered, and that makes you feel confident in the airport. My go-to? Matching sets, sneakers. Cozy but cute Big Girl Time approved.
Traveling doesn’t have to feel chaotic. Once you figure out your rhythm, packing becomes a routine and these 10 essentials are the foundation. If you’re entering your own Big Girl Travel era, let this list be your guide to leveling up your in-air experience.
