This is my first one of these so let me just give you all a preface before you all start judging me. Unfortunately during this trip I had to go to the hospital which I will explain later, which definitely took me off my game. I will definitely be visiting the Dominican republic again in the future to experience it to the fullest extent.
Me and my boyfriend traveled to Santo Domingo to celebrate our birthdays. We traveled from July 1st – July 7th. We flew with Frontier and the cost per ticket was 334.50 which came with 1 checked bag and 2 personal items.

Packing:
I packed all of my stuff in a checked bag and a personal item and my bag was still over weight… and my boyfriend backpacked. I was so proud of him because he had such nice outfits all packed in that tiny bag. Was it a struggle to fit lol yes but he did better than me. He decided to buy a certified personal item backpack to ensure that he would have the right size. I would HIGHLY recommend doing this as it frontier is sometimes very strict. Here is a picture of the one he used.

Packing continued:
When Packing for the Dominican republic it truly depends on where you are going. If you are staying in Punta Cana you can get away with wearing tropical outfits, showing some more skin, and tanning in the sun. If you are going to a place like Santo Domingo, often times I covered up much more because that was the norm there. I rarely ever saw a women wearing shorts and often times I would see women wear a long sleeve or layers. This wasn’t as much of a thing for men attire.

Travel tips:
If you do not know the Spanish basics well, go to Punta Cana. The people understand and speak English more in Punta Cana. In Santo Domingo it was far and few that we encountered a person who spoke English. Even in the airports there was essentially no one who spoke English so please keep that in mind.
Lodging:
We stayed in the Courtyard Marriott in Santo Domingo. Let me just say that the hotel was beautiful, the room was huge and the amenities were decent. But I would not recommend this hotel for the regular traveler. The location is prime for a person who works in DR and their job was near b. It seemed like a lot of pilots, and DR workers were staying at this hotel. The area was also not really in the city. Me and my boyfriend both came to the conclusion that staying in Piantini would have been a better option.

I hope this helps an future travelers out there! Make sure to get out there and explore the world!
